SHOOTING THE TUBE

A few decades ago, I was introduced to small under-the-road calvert somewhere near Lake Ann in Northern Michigan. The river that ran through the calvert was wide and created a real push when it moved through the tube to the other side. We would simply move into a position in front of the "tube" where the river entered and then simply let go, and let the force of the water move you quickly through the tube. We called it shooting the tube.

Well, the tube has gotten bigger, the river narrower, and the force of the water moving through the tube has quieted down substantially which necessitates the use of inner tubes. We still make it a priority as a family, once a year, to shoot the tube.

Shooting tubes in tubes....
