CARS

The first car I ever owned was a 1965 light blue Ford Mustang. It was six-banger with three on the floor. I loved that car...until the transmission went out while I was going to school and avoiding the draft as best I could. That event encouraged me to drop out of school and go back to work and take my chances with the draft.

After I sold the Mustang I proceeded to buy a number of different models and varieties of vehicles. I owned a number of Fords - including 2 Pintos, Buick's, Pontiac's, Dodge's, Oldsmobile's, Toyota's, Honda's, and even owned a blue Honda 305 Scrambler motorcycle. What is amazing about all the vehicles I've owned, is that many of them were blue...probably 75% of them. What's up with that?

I'm still dreaming of owning a sports car of some kind...maybe a Viper. But it won't be blue.

BUMPING AND RUBBING

I've always wondered what it felt like to be in a large field of racers in a NASCAR race. I found out this week in Southern California. My drive...or should I say race to LAX on Friday morning seemed to be an event right out of the NASCAR race lineup. Granted, 80-85 mile an hour speeds in heavy traffic, falls far short when you compare it to Daytona. However, Daytona drives are professionals while the drivers on the 5 are just going to work! The picture above was snapped at 7:30am on the northbound 5 traveling between 80 and 85mph in a Hyundai. BTW who's the driver running Hyundai's on the NASCAR circuit. Maybe I have a shot at helping them?

I would like to give the "most courteous drivers" award to California drivers. I found that they were very accommodating in allowing me to move across 5 lanes of traffic in order to get into a HOV lane. All it took was the use of my turn signal and the lanes opened up like the Red Sea. Michigan gets my vote for the most discourteous drivers. If a Michigan driver senses you need to move to another lane in order to exit or to keep from running off the road, they will actually speed up to block you and keep you from making such a maneuver. Give me OC any day!
